Fellows on the Move
Ana Unruh Cohen is now the Deputy Staff Director
for Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-MA), Chairman of the House
Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming.
She previously served as the Select Committee's Senior
Policy Advisor. Unruh Cohen was a 2001-02 AMS Congressional
Fellow in Rep. Markey's office. Then following the completion
of her fellowship, she was promoted to Markey's legislative
assistant for the environment. She also served as Director
of Environmental Policy at the Center for American Progress.
Tanuja Rastogi, 2005-07 AAAS Fellow at the U.S.
Department of State, was named Special Policy Advisor
to the Executive Director of the World Food Programme.
Christina Kakoyannis, 2006-2007 AAAS Fellow at the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, is now an Evaluation
Officer with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
Michael D. Smith, 2006-2007 AAAS Fellow at the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, is a Senior Environmental
Specialist with ICF International, a Fairfax, VA-based
management, technology, and policy consulting firm.
He is currently managing and providing technical guidance
for a wide range of projects, including environmental
impact analyses for railroad extensions in Alaska and
Wyoming, a major gas pipeline in the Midwest, and a
land management plan covering over two million acres
in western Oregon. He is also preparing a white paper
on Climate Change and National Environmental Policy
Act (NEPA) compliance, and providing environmental compliance
training for federal agencies and private contractors
across the U.S.
Ellen Natesan, 2003-05 AAAS Risk Policy Fellow at
the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, is a biologist
in the Natural Resources Division of the San Francisco
Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC). She will focus
on integrating science into SFPUC's biological monitoring
and environmental analyses associated with utility operations.
Sharon Hays, 1997-98 AAAS Congressional Fellow,
named associate director of the White House Office of
Science and Technology Policy.
Ana
Cristina Villegas, 2003-05 AAAS Fellow at the
U.S. Department of State, is a program officer with
The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, focusing on the
Andes-Amazon Initiative.
Jennifer
Wiseman, 2001-02 APS Congressional Fellow, has
been appointed as the Chief of the Laboratory for Exoplanet
and Stellar Astrophysics at NASA's
Goddard Space Flight Center. This group specializes
in astronomical study of stars and the environments
around them where planets may form and potentially be
detected. She previously served as the program scientist
for the Hubble Space Telescope Program at NASA Headquarters.
On September 20, 2006, retiring Science Committee Chairman
Boehlert (R-NY) announced the promotions of Dahlia
Sokolov, 2004-05 AIP Congressional Fellow, to staff
director of the Subcommittee on Energy and Johannes
Loschnigg, 2002-03 Congressional Fellow, to staff
director of the Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics.
